Sustainability meets practice: Project day at the BBS GuT Trier

What does sustainability actually look like in a printing company? We got to the bottom of this question together with the students of the vocational school for design and technology in Trier - as part of an exciting project day for the sustainability project week.

Insight into practice:
Presentation on sustainability in the printing company

We began with an overview of our measures for greater sustainability in the printing company: from certified papers and energy efficiency in production to sustainability projects such as our recycling of paper carrier tape and resource-saving processes. The focus was not only on technical aspects, but also on the question of how ecological, economic and social responsibility can be put into practice in everyday working life. This gave the budding media designers and media technologists a practical insight into the industry.

Printing your own bags in the screen printing workshop

After the theory, it got practical: in the screen printing workshop, participants were able to print their own carrier bags. For many, it was their first contact with the classic screen printing process - and the enthusiasm for printing and squeegeeing was correspondingly high. Afterwards, possible printing errors were analysed together - from too little pressure to smudged tools, everything was included.

Participate and think: your own sustainability quiz

Finally, the budding media designers and technologists worked together to develop an interactive sustainability quiz - with questions about paper, recycling, social responsibility and sustainable design. This allowed the participants to test their knowledge and at the same time take away ideas on how the topic of sustainability can be taken further in their future careers.

A successful day full of dialogue, ideas and practice - with great feedback from teachers and trainees. We are delighted to have been part of this exciting project week and to have been able to inspire young people to act sustainably in the print and media industry. Thank you for allowing us to be with you!
