Ein feuchtes Spektakel bei bestem Wetter – die Gaustchfeier der Firma Krämer Druck

Successful completion of apprenticeships and a traditional ‘Gautsch’ celebration

It has been another successful summer at Krämer Druck: apprentices Dayna Roedermund, Samuel Schabbach and Arthur Fuchs have successfully passed their final examinations. Whilst media designer Dayna is continuing her career outside the company, the two print media technologists, Samuel and Arthur, will be joining the production team as journeymen.

Following their successful exams, Krämer Druck also upheld a special tradition: the ‘Gautsch’ celebration.

The ‘Gautsch’ is an old custom in the printing trade and symbolically marks the end of the apprenticeship. During the ceremony, the newly qualified journeymen and journeywomen are ‘cleansed’ of the ‘sins’ of their apprenticeship in a ‘water baptism’ and officially welcomed into the circle of the ‘black artists’ – that is, printers and those in related professions.

As the public Gautsch ceremony in Trier has not taken place for several years now, we organised our own in-house celebration this year at the Kerpen Winery in Wehlen. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Kerpen family for allowing us to be their guests.

A special moment during the celebrations was that it wasn’t just this year’s graduates who were initiated: a number of long-serving staff members who had not yet experienced this tradition were also formally ‘retroactively initiated’ – including Timo Petry, Karsten Krempel and even our senior Leo Krämer.

We warmly congratulate all the graduates on passing their exams and all those who took part in the initiation on this special day!
